Questionnaire Details

It is important that you answer the questions of the carbon reductions questionnaire correctly and to the best of your knowledge.

If in doubt if or how much you fulfill the implementation degree criteria for certain questions you can always refer to this guide.

Does nuclear energy count as "renewable source"?

According to the EU regulation 2022/1214, nuclear energy is not considered renewable. However, the EU acknowledges that nuclear energy is a "transitional low-carbon" alternative. Since the supplier+s questionnaire is primarily focused on your carbon reduction efforts, you can include electricity purchased from a verified nuclear source in the implementation degree of the renewable electricity question of the supplier+s questionnaire alongside the traditional renewable sources such as wind, solar and hydro.

When can a compressed air system be considered "optimized"?

In order to consider your compressed air sytem optimized it must be comprised of several different activities that need to be

a) anchored in your segments' buinesses policies/ operational practices and

b) conducted regularly

These activities are:

  • Leakage control: regularly controlling the compressed air system for air leackages and remediating them timely

  • (Peak) Demand management: avoiding demand peaks with high pressure need, aiming for consistent utilization with homogenous pressure, switching off the compressed air system during inactive times like weekends

  • Pressure level minimisation: using the lowest possible compressed air network pressure & conducting decentralized pressure boosting for individual consumers with higher pressure demand

  • Regular maintenance: controlling compressors, controlling intake, replacing outdated/ deficient systems by new state of the art technology

To disclose your degree of implementation for the compressed air question, you hence should assess to which extent your business segment regularly conducts these 4 activities for all compressed air systems.

E.g. if you apply all 4 in one of your 2 locations with compressed air system, select 41-60% (medium share). If you apply 2 of these activities regularly to all compressed air systems, select 41-60% (medium share) and so forth.

Do supplier+s responses qualify as primary data under CSRD / ESRS E1?

Yes. Supplier+s responses qualify as primary data when they are based on supplier-specific information (e.g., delivered quantities, metered energy consumption, or directly reported emissions) and when the data source, method, period, and units are clearly documented. The GHG Protocol defines primary data as “data from specific activities within a company’s value chain” (Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Accounting and Reporting Standard, page 140) and lists, among others, meter readings, purchase records, supplier-provided measurements, or engineering models with supplier inputs as acceptable methods (Scope 3 Frequently Asked Questions, Question 16).
